We’re introducing Life Jacket Safety Week as part of our Learn to Swim program from 25 May to 7 June 2026.
During this time, students will take part in a fun and educational lesson variation focused on life jacket safety. They’ll learn how life jackets help keep people safe in and around water and how they should be used.
Swimming skills are important but knowing what to do in unexpected situations matters too. Life Jacket Safety Week helps students build confidence and practical safety skills they can use beyond the pool.
During the lesson, students will practise:
Entering and exiting the water safely
Floating with the support of a life jacket
Moving through the water while wearing a life jacket
The “help position” to conserve energy and stay afloat
Students will also learn where life jackets are needed, including on boats, near rivers, rock fishing areas and in emergencies.
For many children, this may be their first time wearing a life jacket. Learning in a familiar lesson setting helps reduce fear and build positive safety habits.
The program runs across two weeks, with each class taking part once during their regular lesson. This ensures all students can safely use the equipment and fully participate.
All life jackets are provided, so students can simply attend their lesson as usual.
