Learn to SwimOutdoor Swimming Pool

Learn to Swim lessons are returning soon to Prince Alfred Park Pool and Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool - just in time to get your kids water-ready for summer.

Learning to swim is a vital life skill. And there’s something special about learning in the open air - kids build confidence, connect with nature and enjoy the sunshine while developing strong swim skills.

With lessons starting soon, now’s the perfect time to explore the top five reasons to learn to swim outdoors:

  • Fresh air and sunshine

Outdoor swimming lessons give kids and adults alike the chance to soak up vitamin D while exercising. Sunshine and fresh air make swimming feel less like a lesson and more like fun.

  • Builds water confidence for real-life settings

Many family holidays or weekend adventures involve the beach, rivers, or outdoor pools. Learning to swim outdoors helps swimmers feel more at ease in these environments, building confidence that goes beyond the lap lane.

  • Boosts mental wellbeing

Being outside in the water has been shown to reduce stress and lift mood. The combination of exercise, fresh air, and a natural setting helps your kids stay motivated and enjoy their lessons.

  • Enhances physical fitness

Swimming is a full-body workout that builds strength, endurance, and coordination. Outdoor lessons encourage kids to keep active in a fun, refreshing way, while adults benefit from improved fitness and energy.

  • Social and community connections

Outdoor pools often feel more relaxed and social. Learning in these settings can help kids make friends and encourage families to spend more time together by the water.
