What began in March 2026 as a weekly community run has quickly grown into a thriving and supportive club where people come together to build fitness, achieve their goals and connect with others.
As we celebrate Mental Health Month this October, Run Club is a great example of how movement and social connection can support overall wellbeing. More than just a training session, Gunyama Run Club has grown into a welcoming community where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities come together to stay active, support one another and work towards their goals. Whether training for an event or simply enjoying the benefits of running, members are encouraged to build confidence, improve their wellbeing and enjoy the journey alongside others. As the club continues to grow, the weekly evening sessions will move from Tuesdays to Fridays at 6:15pm, starting Friday 16 October 2026.
The club's success comes from the strong sense of connection created each week, with both new and returning runners showing up to challenge themselves, stay motivated and be part of a supportive group environment.
A key part of that success is the dedication of the Run Club coaches, who help participants stay motivated and believe in their abilities. The club recently welcomed two new coaches, Hanna and Priscila, who have quickly become valued members of the community and have enjoyed supporting runners as they work towards their personal goals.

Hanna
As an experienced and passionate group fitness instructor, Hanna brings a warm and encouraging approach to every Run Club session. She believes consistency, positive support and enjoying movement are key to building confidence and creating lasting habits, while helping runners feel motivated, connected and supported every step of the way.

Priscila
Priscila has been part of the Gunyama community since 2023 and brings a wealth of running experience to the club. As a NSW Athletics Certified Running Coach, Coogee Run Club Captain and Girls Run Sydney pacer, she is passionate about helping people build confidence, learn the fundamentals and enjoy the journey of running. Her focus is on creating a fun and welcoming environment where participants feel supported to improve their skills, work towards their goals and discover just how rewarding running can be.
Former Run Club coach Manu also reflected on the impact of Run Club and seeing members achieve goals they once thought were out of reach:
Coaching Run Club through the City2Surf journey has been incredibly rewarding. Watching runners build confidence, achieve their goals and support one another along the way has been inspiring. It's a reminder that running is about more than the finish line, it's about the people, connections and journey.
Joining Run Club sessions was also an important part of many members’ preparation for the 14km City2Surf event in August 2026, providing motivation, structure and a supportive group to train alongside.
We spoke with some of the members who committed to showing up weekly, challenging themselves and achieving goals they once thought were out of reach. For many, training for City2Surf brought not only physical improvements but also greater confidence, resilience and mental wellbeing.

The journey continues
With City2Surf behind them, many Run Club members are already looking ahead to their next challenge - the HOKA Half Marathon in 2027. Training continues as runners build on the confidence, fitness and friendships developed through the club.
Less than a year since launching, Gunyama Run Club has become more than a place to train. It is a supportive community where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities come together to move, connect and work towards their goals. Whether members are preparing for their first fun run, chasing a personal best or simply looking to stay active, the club continues to foster a welcoming environment where everyone is encouraged to participate at their own pace.
