Why learn to swim in Australia?

Swimming is an essential life skill in Australia. As an international student, learning to swim can help you:

  • Enjoy beaches safely

  • Improve fitness and wellbeing

  • Meet new people and feel part of the community

What to expect in adult learn to swim classes

Our adult classes are welcoming, supportive and tailored specifically for beginners through to developing swimmers.

They're also:

  • Led by qualified, friendly instructors

  • Designed specifically for adults

  • Welcoming to international students and beginners

  • Structured to help you progress at your own pace

Scarlett, Assistant Centre Manager at Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, sees people from a wide range of backgrounds come through the doors each day, united by a shared goal - learning the essential life skill of swimming.

We welcome students from all walks of life, including many who've moved to Australia from overseas, into our Adult Learn to Swim classes. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how quickly they grow in confidence. Many tell us they feel comfortable, supported and completely at ease in our classes, which is exactly the environment we strive to create.
